Network USP Inclusive launches neurodiversity movement

1 October 2024

Make your voice heard and come to the launch of the neurodiversity movement within Hogeschool Utrecht, UMC Utrecht and Utrecht University on October 16, 2024 from 11:30 -13:00 a.m. Network USP Inclusive aims to improve the inclusion of neurodiversity in the workplace. In addition, creating awareness and forming a community is central.  Among others, Jim van Os Professor of Psychiatry and Chairman Division Brain UMC Utrecht will contribute during this hybrid meeting. Registration >

Note: the meeting will be held in Dutch. However, we warmly welcome all English-speaking employees to join us.

Every team consists of a huge variety of individuals with a mix of sensitivities and talents. How do the talents and sensitivities everyone brings with them relate to each other? How do we deal with them? Everyone is somewhere on the spectrum of neurodiversity and that requires adaptation. Adaptation in how people do the work, but also in tolerance and understanding of each other. And that doesn’t happen automatically, you really have to do something for that. The first step is awareness of neurodiversity and learning to recognize, help and grow in it for each other. A neurodiversity movement contributes to this.

Program launch meeting neurodiversity movement

During this meeting, Jim van Os explores with the audience the theme of neurodiversity. What is going on in the workplace? How does contact with colleagues or supervisors address sensitivities? Jim also shares examples from everyday practice. Then Jan van Rijswijk, – external doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Management Sciences Open University – presents the results of his research. During this research, seventy teams from various organizations, including Hogeschool Utrecht, UMC Utrecht and Utrecht University, mapped the brain profile of team members and analyzed group dynamics. Jan shares why neurodiversity can be the key to success and what it takes to achieve it.
We also discuss the crucial question: what kind of team do we want to be?

Finally, there will be room for your voice to be heard and to share what you encounter or to contribute examples. We would like to hear what you need from the organization (where you work), what change you would like and what role the neurodiversity movement of Network USP Inclusive can play in this. Moderator Martijn Tillema of (Onbeperkte Denkers) will guide this part with Jim van Os and Jan van Rijswijk sitting on a panel. Based on this input, the network will work after the meeting to shape and initiate the neurodiversity movement.
